| Caterina Valente recepient of the honorary Bambi 2005  Singer and entertainer Caterina Valente was awarded the Honorary - Bambi in Munich on December 1st 2005. The Hubert Burda Media jury bestowed the coveted media award on Valente for her outstanding international career. According to the jury, Valente had shown over decades how a star can be successful with music "made in Europe". It claimed that "with her great voice and incomparable charm, she had blazed a trail for many international female stars" Valente, who is now 74, has released a total of around 1500 musical titles in 13 languages on 400 albums. Valente was born into an Italian artist family in 1931 in Paris. She made her first appearance as a five-year-old in 1936 in Stuttgart. In the 1950s she became Germany's number one popstar with evergreens such as "Ganz Paris trдumt von der Liebe" (I love paris) and "Wo meine sonne scheint" (Island in the sun).In 1954, Valente embarked on an unparalleled global career, the hits "Malaguena" and "The Breeze and I" making her the first European star to reach the Top Ten in the American hit parade. She had her own television shows in the USA, Switzerland, England, Sweden, France, Italy and Germany. As a leading film actress she achieved public success in 12 European film-musicals She was also a brilliant jazz performer, singing with all-time greats like Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin and Chet Baker. Caterina Valente's great international success was recognised with awards in Italy, France, Brazil, Japan and the USA. In Germany, awards included the Bundesverdienstkreuz 1.
