| Herbie Hancock Is Still As Funky As Ever Herbie Hancock and the Headhunter's legendary bass player Paul Jackson, aka P Jack, returns to the scene with a new solo release entitled "Funk On A Stick" on BackDoor Records. With an allstar cast Paul Jackson has once again contributed to his legacy of being one of the most influential musicians of our time. The track "Funky Fingers" featuring Jackson on bass and vocals, Mike Clark on drums, percussionist Bill Summers, jazz keyboard extraordinaire Herbie Hancock and Jerry Stucker on guitar takes you back to the original Headhunters and is as funky as it gets. Herbie is playing electric piano and clavinet and hasn't lost his funk edge. In recent years a few great keyboard players have filled the keyboard position with the Headhunters but it is always refreshing to hear the where it all came from and this track is it. The rest of the cuts are equally as strong and featuring other greats. One such track is "Hey Lou" that features an allstar line up including the world-renowned sax player Ernie Watts. The title track is "Funk On A Stick" where P Jack displays his powerful vocal chops. This cut is destined for radio. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
