| Makanda Project to perform in Newburyport, MA On Saturday, November 12, 2005, the Makanda Project will perform at the Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport, Ma. The Makanda Project is an effort by a group of Boston musicians to bring to light some incredible music that would otherwise have remained unheard. When the great multi-instrumentalist Makanda Ken McIntyre passed in 2001, he left around 400 compositions that had not been recorded. McIntyre had unique gifts and conceptions as a composer, and this body of work is full of pieces that represent his compositional talent at its best. The group consists of Kurtis Rivers, alto saxophone and clarinet; Salim Washington, tenor saxophone, flute, and oboe; Sean Berry, tenor saxophone, flute, and clarinet; Charlie Kohlhase, baritone saxophone; Josiah Woodson, trumpet and flute; Bill Lowe, trombone; John Kordalewski, piano and arrangements; John Lockwood, bass; and Yoron Israel, drums. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
