| The Stolen Sweets take acoustic vocal jazz to California The Stolen Sweets’ ability to transport audiences to the early days of jazz has earned them a very colorful fan base, from hipsters to golden-agers. The band has been performing the complex vocal jazz arrangements of the popular 1930s girl group, The Boswell Sisters, to rave reviews in its native Portland. The Sweets’ double bass and tandem guitars dance through the Boswells’ arrangements with freewheeling dexterity, while the group’s vocalists execute complex three-part harmonies with verve and conviction. The band features some of Portland’s most notable musicians. Guitarist Pete Krebs (Hazel) and vocalist Lara Michell (Dirty Martini) have been fixtures in the NW music scene for years. Armed with two reliable cars and a vagabond spirit, the members of The Stolen Sweets are slated to arrive in Hollywood on October 28 to begin a short California tour. Their public appearances are as follows: Friday, October 28 at 7:30pm: Tangier Restaurant . Los Angeles Saturday, October 29: Mercury. Goleta Wednesday, November 2 at 9pm: The Make-Out Room, San Francisco write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
