| Billy Bauer,89;guitarist Recorded with Charlie Parker,Lennie Tristano by Ron Sagye La Rue Billy Bauer, guitarist 89, died, June 2005 from pneumonia lived in Albertson, N.Y. Born in the Bronx began on banjo before switching to guitar, played with Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Jack Teagarden. But most associated with pianist Lennie tristano in the late 1940s. In 1949, Bauer was part of a recording session led by Tristano that included: Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh, Arnold Fishkin, Denzil Best and Harold Granowsky. At that time were called "the most audacious experiments yet attempted in Jazz". These sessions were looked upon as "breaking away" from the traditional, harmonic and Structural limitations of traditional Jazz. Crosscurrent, "Intuition", "Sax of A Kind" and "Digression" are the compositions recorded by Capitol. Bauer also recorded with Charlie Parker the date was actually an all-star session asssembled by Metronome(magazine) for a RCA Victor date(1949)with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Fat Narrarro, J.J. Johnson, Kai Winding Lennie Tristano, Shelly Mann and others. Bauer made only one date under his own name "Plectrist"(1956) Verve. He had his own publishing company and taught at the Billy Bauer Guitar School on Long Island.
