| Top Entertainers of the Century Tribune Media Services announced plans to distribute to newspapers in the United States and abroad a list compiled by Variety of the top 100 entertainment icons of the century. Named the top entertainers of the past 100 years were The Beatles. Rounding out the Top Ten, in alphabetical order, are Louis Armstrong, Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, Marlon Brando, Charlie Chaplin, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Mickey Mouse and Elvis Presley.
