| Wynton Marsalis to Speak at National Press Club Pulitzer Prize-winning musician and New Orleans native Wynton Marsalis will speak Oct. 20 at a National Press Club luncheon. A composer, performer and music educator, Marsalis is currently artistic director at New York City's Jazz at Lincoln Center. He will be speaking on "Higher Ground: The Rebuilding of New Orleans." Marsalis lived in New Orleans until he left at the age of 18 to attend the Juilliard School of Music. He subsequently began playing with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, and since his professional debut he has gone on to win eight Grammy Awards and release numerous albums. Following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Marsalis organized the Sept. 17 "Higher Ground" benefit concert in New York City.
