The Jazz Faure Project Makes its New York Premiere

The New York Premiere of The Jazz Fauré Project opens at The Triad on Thursday, October 13. Two world-class, critically acclaimed singers, Paris-born Claudia Hommel and New York’s own Daniel Neer have joined forces with the extraordinary jazz pianist and composer Dennis Luxion (Chet Baker’s European pianist and arranger) to create The Jazz Fauré Project – A Classical Rendezvous.

Based on the melodies of 19th century impressionist composer Gabriel Fauré, The Jazz Fauré Project is the brilliant musical fusion of classical and jazz forms to create something truly unique: an understated, elegant and magical sound completely fresh in its mood and structure. Fauré’s original vocal line, treated with velvety warmth and snappy joie de vivre by vocalists Hommel and Neer, meets Luxion’s cool and innovative arrangements. Accompanying them will be musicians Jim Cox on bass, Tim Davis on drums and Tim McNamara on sax, clarinet and flute.

The gorgeous mini-masterpieces of Fauré’s art songs (Lydia, Mai, Clair de lune and Mandoline, to name a few) enjoy a rendezvous with bossa nova, blues, swing and Latin rhythms. Singing of love lost, love found, and love yearned for, Daniel and Claudia render the original French poetry a language all New York audiences will enjoy. The integrity of Fauré’s original harmonic structure is celebrated and expanded, like a great French wine whose time has come. The Jazz Fauré Project is a magical convergence of classical, jazz and cabaret blended together. The result is a classy, chic and magical evening of music-making.
