Jazz singer Coughlin at the Chrysler Centre

Award-winning Jazz vocalist Joe Coughlin hits his home-town this weekend for two hot performances on October 1 and 2. Named male vocalist of the year by Jazz Report Magazine along side Diana Krall's female vocalist prize, Coughlin is celebrating 25 years in the business. He'll be performing both nights at the Chrysler Theatre with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra.

"I've sung a lot of songs for a lot of great audiences, " said Coughlin. "But I've got to tell you, coming back home and performing with the symphonyis going to be a gas!" The Windsor Symphony will perform the music of the 60s and the 70s with Coughlin performing his signature jazzy renditions from the Rat Pack that have gained him kudos in the media as Canada's answer to Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.

Joe has released four CD's and is now working on his fifth. This one willinclude some of Coughlin's original compositions and will feature a crack west coast outfit of the country's finest musicians. You can also catch Joe on the praised CD "Here Come The Boys: A Canadian Crooner Collection" launched during the 2004 Montreal International Jazz Festival.

Coughlin lives in Victoria, BC and has performed there for years at thelandmark Empress Hotel and in various jazz fests. In July, 2005, the Victoria Times-Colonist said, "His voice is gorgeous - beautifully controlled, with horn-like phrasing that reflects Coughlin's fascination with saxophonist Dexter Gordon. Unlike Frank Sinatra, he approaches the American Songbook with the dexterity of a jazz singer, yet his timbre is reflective of Sinatra's manly, seasoned sound."
