| Sixth Edition of Top-Selling Compilation CD Series NPR is the destination for news, information and the arts for more than 26 million people weekly... and also a gateway for music fans to discover performers not found anywhere else. Listener demand for the kind of music used throughout NPR news and programming sparked the first "I heard it on NPR" compilation CD in 2002. Following four more top-selling editions, NPR launches the sixth one September 27: One World Many Voices. Previous "I heard it on NPR" CDs have covered the breadth of popular music: the first featured jazz legends and newcomers, and subsequent volumes explored American music genres, world music, blues and singer/songwriters performing in NPR's acclaimed Washington, D.C. Studio 4A. "This sixth CD returns to the global music theme but also takes listeners on a journey through the history and events that influenced these artists, " said Barbara Sopato, E-Commerce Manager, NPR. "I heard it on NPR: One World Many Voices" includes 13 songs from such artists as Emeline Michel, GreenJolly, Miriam Makeba and Patti Smith and is produced in partnership with Daedalus Books and Music and Boss Sounds. NPR's influence over adult music buyers has been acknowledged by the music industry and numerous consumer, business and trade media. A Billboard article called NPR "the crucial destination" for record labels seeking to reach adult audiences. The NPR Music brand extends through broadcast and satellite radio programming, original online content and merchandise. NPR's news programming, including Morning Edition and All Things Considered, provide wide-ranging music segments, artist profiles, exclusive interviews and features. NPR's slate also has the trend-setting contemporary music series World Cafe as well as performance series showcasing jazz, classical, opera, symphony and Celtic. NPR.org offers All Songs Considered, an online-only music program which, in turn, sparked a series of ASC live online-only club concerts featuring such acts as Wilco, White Stripes and David Gray. Fans can take NPR Music home from the NPR Shop with its wide variety of compilation, themed and holiday CDs.
