| Luvpark "Show of Luv" Katrina benefit concerts Imani Records recording artist, Luvpark, is at it again. Not long after spearheading a fundraiser to purchase a new piano for Ortliebs Jazz Haus, Luvpark is teaming up with Zanzibar Blue to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. There will be two concerts, Sunday, September 25th and Monday, September 26th, at Zanzibar Blue, Philadelphia with two shows each evening. Luvpark will be joined by grammy nominated trumpeter and New Orleans native, Nicholas Payton, jazz guitarist Mark Whitfield, saxophonist Tim Warfield, and jazz vocalist Carolyn Leonhart, as well as Philly neo soul powerhouses Bilal and Jaguar Wright. Hosts for the evenings will be radio personalities, Patty Jackson, WDAS, and J. Michael Harrison, WRTI, with special appearances by many other including Mark Shultz, the President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Grammys. Luvpark is Orrin Evans on piano, DAWN, JD Walter and Tiffany Jones on vocals, Ron Jennings on guitar, Donald Edwards on drums and Ralph Bowen on saxophone. Luvpark blurs the borders between jazz, soul, fusion and funk. “The Luvpark project incorporates sounds reminiscent of ‘70s Herbie Hancock, ‘80s Steve Coleman and ‘90s R&B and hip-hop.” The Philadelphia Daily News “The Philadelphia-based collective, which is led by acclaimed jazz pianist Orrin Evans, has a contemporary sound and isn’t afraid to acknowledge ‘70s fusion…” Jazz Times Magazine write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
