| Jean Grae signs with Blacksmith Music Blacksmith Music and Babygrande Records have finalized a buyout which will allow Jean Grae to work under Corey Smyth's Blacksmith Music. Word on the street is that Talib Kweli is also behind Blacksmith Music and is trying to sign other artists such as MF Doom and Rakim. Since signing with Babygrande in 2003 Jean Grae dropped "Bootleg of the Bootleg EP" and "This Week." 'Jean Grae is an incredibly talented MC and her time is now. We are honored to have played a role in her devlopment and have full confidence that Blacksmith Music will enable her to thrive at the major label level, ' says Babygrande CEO Chuck Wilson. Jean Grae was born in South Africa and grew up in New York City. Both parents were independent artists, and jazz musicians. At 13 years old she became the youngest person to be a part of Alvin Ailey's second company.
