Vandermark 5 new double-CD The Color of Memory out 9/13

The Vandermark 5 New Double-cd The Color Of Memory Out 9/13. On this, their first studio double-album (released on Chicago's stalwart Atavistic label), the band once again raises the bar for improvised and exploratory musics. Continuing to abandon tradition, The Vandermark 5 unleash an album which truly sets them apart from any other working band today, jazz or otherwise.

“The Color of Memory” is comprised of material developed and composed while on tour in Europe in March 2004 (the tour in which the group held a 5-day residency in Krakow, and is documented on the “Alchemia” 12-cd boxset). The ensemble also performed and honed these pieces while on a double-bill tour with the Scandinavian group Atomic, in North America during the following summer. The “Flammable Material Box” is an unique documentation of this June 2004 tour.

This is also the last album with original member Jeb Bishop (trombone), and here more than any other recording, is a classic demonstration of the physical drive and energy he has given to the group. While Jeb's contributions will be greatly missed, the ensemble is eager to explore new sonic avenues, as evidenced by the recent inclusion of Fred Lonberg-Holm on Cello.

The Vandermark 5 will celebrate the release of “The Color Of Memory” at the Green Mill Lounge in Chicago on Friday September 30th and Saturday October 1st. The ensemble will embark on tour in North America and Europe beginning Fall 2005.
