Quango Music Group Announces Oliver Peoples 4's Release

Groundbreaking Lifestyle Label Quango Music Group has announced an exciting new venture with its declaration of independence, partnering with Oliver Peoples Eyewear to create and market the first commercial release Oliver Peoples 4, the latest compilation from the Los Angeles-based eyewear designer and retailer. This exclusive collaboration, between Quango founder and underground music pioneer Bruno Guez, and DJs Allen Voskanian and Rudy Manheim, exemplifies Oliver Peoples trailblazing design creed and unique philosophy. Quango has transformed Oliver Peoples’ innovative luxury eyewear identity into a genre-defying musical experience scheduled to hit stores September, 2005.

The new disc seamlessly mirrors the Oliver Peoples mystique with its blend of seductive soul, chilled out beats and infectious grooves. Picking up where the previous three OP collections left off – and blazing new territory – Oliver Peoples 4 features rare gems and hard-to-find tracks for fans of Thievery Corporation, Tosca, 4hero and Bliss. Oliver Peoples 4 will be the first compilation from the acclaimed eyewear company available for sale outside of the Oliver Peoples retail stores in Los Angeles and New York.

Describing the collaboration, Quango CEO Bruno Guez says, “Oliver Peoples has a distinct, undeniable presence, and has redefined eyewear with a modern twist. Not only have they influenced eyewear designers, but the entire design culture. Quango wanted to complement their visionary boldness with an album that taps into the spirit of their brand and the essence of their clientele.”

Larry Leight, Co-founder and Chief Designer of Oliver Peoples eyewear says, “Bringing Quango on board signals the company’s recognition of the growing role music plays in the development of our cutting-edge profile.” Also pivotal in creating the music series at Oliver Peoples is Rudy Manheim, manager of the flagship OP store on Sunset Blvd. “I am stoked! Coming full circle with Bruno and Quango from the inception of the label has been a great, great ride, " says Manheim. "Reflecting on our emerging design culture, to have Oliver Peoples 4 under the Quango label, and to be able to work with Bruno, and Allen and the entire staff again, is truly a vision realized."

Bruno Guez has remained at the forefront of the lifestyle music branding and marketing revolution since the early 90s when working as a DJ at KCRW. The entrepreneurial-minded Guez founded Quango Records as an imprint of Chris Blackwell’s Island Records, later moving Quango with Blackwell to the Palm Pictures label. Constantly in demand for his vast musical expertise, Guez most recently held the position of Creative Director for the world-renowned entertainment group, Cirque Du Soleil. In addition to his role as CEO of Quango, Guez is also the musical director for the DVD/CD series on the Palm World Voices label, a joint venture between Palm Pictures and Universal Music Enterprises.

“This latest project is a perfect distillation of the ‘differential’ advantages lifestyle chains like Oliver Peoples are offering to their customers, ” says Guez. “Music moves culture. Aligning the emotional experience of music with a strong branding presence in the marketplace is perfectly in tune with consumers desire to personalize their own soundtrack. Whether it is via laptops, mp3 players or their mobile phones, people are customizing their entertainment and information needs to fit the pace of their own lives. Now companies are tapping into the notion that they too can create a musical ambience that translates the aura of their brand to the customer they want to reach.”

Oliver Peoples 4 marks the expansion of Quango Music Group as a fully independent lifestyle entertainment company, having released more than 40 records in the past decade as one of music’s most innovative imprints. The Los Angeles based company has carefully developed an acclaimed, diverse roster of independent artists and comprehensive compilations, including Zero 7, Koop, Bliss, Kruder & Dorfmeister and Talvin Singh. Quango has also developed music and lifestyle integration strategies for a variety of brands, including American Rag Cie, Da-Nang Surplus, Prive Salons, and Island Outpost Hotels.
