Bassist/composer Avishai Cohen On Tour In Support of “At Home”!

Bassist/composer Avishai Cohen will be leading his trio, featuring two rising stars on the international music scene, Sam Barsh (piano, Fender Rhodes, Melodica) and Mark Guiliana (drums, percussion), on the second wave of his nationwide U.S. tour in celebration of his striking new recording, At Home, in stores now! Special guests will join the trio, which has been touring the world to rave reviews for the last two years.

At Home, Avishai Cohen’s sixth recording as a leader, features eleven profoundly beautiful compositions performed by his trio with special guests Yosvany Terry (saxophones, chekere), Anne Drummond (flute), Diego Urcola (flugelhorn), Jeff Ballard (drums, percussion) and Tomer Tzur (hand drum). The recording, which has been garnering high praise abroad, features eleven new compositions from Cohen and is the follow up recording to Razdaz Recordz’s first release, Cohen’s critically acclaimed Lyla. At Home was released through Sunnyside Records and is distributed by RykoDisc in the U.S.

“The new album At Home (Razdaz) shows Cohen to be a bandleader with a big picture point of view and an exceptionally well-rounded musician. His songs pull from any number of sources: the Mediterranean, South Africa, the Middle East, funk and any number of folk forms. It all dances and it’s all tied up with jazz.” Kirk Silsbee, L.A. City Beat
Avishai Cohen, a musician who has been called a “jazz visionary of global proportions” by DownBeat, and was declared one of the 100 Most Influential Bass Players of the 20th Century by Bass Player Magazine, has recorded an album of magnificent proportions. At Home reflects on, and celebrates, places, people, emotions and realizations that Cohen has encountered in his many sojourns around the globe, all the while exposing the innermost jubilation and contemplation of the bassist/composer. Stuart Nicholson, commenting on At Home, in Jazzwise Magazine, said “for my money [it’s] the most considered and best realised of all.” Indeed, Cohen exposes his many gifts as a melodic composer, powerful soloist and provoking leader, as never before, reflected in the brilliant performances by the trio and ensemble. Whether in his adopted home of New York City, in his native Israel, or on the road playing this music (where he finds himself much of each year), Avishai Cohen is At Home.

“”At Home” is an accomplishment of quiet intensity, principally based on the successful melding of Cohen's fluid bass with Mark Guiliana's sympathetic drumming and the subtle contemporary keyboard work of Sam Barsh.” Brett Saunders, The Denver Post

Avishai Cohen’s discography as a leader: Adama (1998), Devotion (1999), Colors (2000), Unity (2001), Lyla (2003), At Home (2005)
