| Loggins & Messina Reunion at JAS Labor Day Festival Nearly three decades after their last tour, 70’s hitmakers Loggins & Messina are reuniting and scheduled to headline at the Jazz Aspen Snowmass (JAS) Labor Day Festival presented by Janus, set for Snowmass Town Park on September 2-5. Other early announcements made by JAS today include the return of country legend Willie Nelson and funk masters Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. Loggins & Messina will appear on the JAS Main Stage, Saturday, September 3rd in an exclusive Colorado appearance. In conjunction with the tour Columbia/Legacy has released “The Best: Loggins & Messina Sittin’ in Again, ” on May 24th featuring such hits as “Your Mama Don’t Dance, ” “Danny’s Song” and “Angry Eyes.” After eight successful albums together between 1972 and 1977, including two live sets, the duo went their separate ways, touring together for the last time in 1976. Loggins & Messina, who have both pursued solo careers and collaborated with other artists, decided to join forces again after appearing together at benefit performances. The pair is “open to the idea of creating new music, ” Loggins says, “but not unless we feel creatively drawn to that.” Messina adds that their concert performances will “stay pretty true to our old arrangements, but probably with a little more juice and life in them.” Willie Nelson, who will return to the JAS main stage for his third appearance, co-headlines on Sunday, September 4th. In his long and eclectic career, Nelson has recorded country music, standards, gospel, and much more. The Red Headed Stranger is a vital icon in country music, having greatly influenced the new country, new traditionalist and alternative country movements of the ‘80s and ‘90s as well as leaving behind a legacy of classic songs and recordings. Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe has been expanding listeners’ minds and making them move to animated grooves since 1998. Led by former Lenny Kravitz sax-man Karl Denson, the Tiny Universe brings a dynamic sound that defies categorization. They have earned a reputation as kings of the unstoppable all-night show. Denson’s exact spot at the Labor Day Festival has yet to be determined. Additional performance announcements for the JAS Labor Day Festival will be made imminently including eight main stage acts and multiple JAS After Dark performances. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
