JJ Worthen Breaks Out at SugarHill

JJ Worthen was busy this summer wrapping up his 2 songs at SugarHill Recording Studios in Studio A. Worthen shot to fame when he became last season’s grand prize winner of Local 2/KPRC’s hit show, Gimme the Mike; Houston’s local singing talent show.
SugarHill sponsored the show by providing a lucrative grand prize production deal to the winner. The package included music arrangement, recording and mixing 2 songs with producer Dan Workman, who is co-owner/President of SugarHill Recording Studios, and has worked with renowned artists including Beyonce, ZZ Top, Clay Walker and Destiny’s Child.

Worthen recorded 2 songs “Change my Mind; an up beat rock song and “Here with Me”; a moody swing-jazz song. Both tunes were tracked and mixed in SugarHill’s Studio A.
Workman was thrilled to work with Worthen, particularly since Workman has been spearheading SugarHill for many years as a strong advocate for local musicians in Houston… “JJ is one of those rare talents. He is not only a gifted singer and instrumentalist, but has real knack for song writing and arranging as well.”

The fourth season of Gimme The Mike will kick off on Monday August 22nd, and you can check out JJ Worthen’s new songs, in addition to interviews with Dan Workman and JJ Worthen discussing their experience working together.

Located in Houston, SugarHill Recording Studios is the oldest continuously operating facility in Texas. With over 60 years of music-making history, we have an award-winning engineering staff and a collection of both leading edge and vintage equipment.
