The 2003 first annual South Bay Jazz Festival was attended by over 2000 fans, and featured such celebrated contemporary jazz artists as Norman Brown, Wayman Tisdale, Everette Harp, Hiroshima, Gregg Karukas, and Rick Perkins. In 2004 many more eager jazz enthusiasts listened to the sounds of Eloise Laws, Freddie Ravel, Phil Perry, Jeanette Harris, Bobby Lyles, Marion Meadows, Joyce Cooling, Karen Briggs, Michael Lington, Dennis Nelson, Dwight Trible and the group Himalaya. Good weather, good music, and good behavior marked each event, which was a source of civic pride for Inglewood residents who have long fought against negative stereotypes associated with the city. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
