| Sydney Bands-Manly Jazz Festival and Viva the band The Manly Jazz Festival, is Australia's largest and longest-running community based jazz festival Set amongst the beautiful Sydney harbour environment, the festival is hugely popular with expectations of over 60, 000 people attending over a 3 day period on the 1st-3rd October 2005. Manly is considered to be the 'home of jazz' in Australia and this year will be its 28th year of operation. There are outdoor stages along the beachfront, in the Corso, around the entrances of Manly wharf and at major hotels in Manly. Artists comprise of previously included leading bands and artists from around Australia and overseas. A diverse range of jazz styles will be featured, including the best of the country's student big bands. The program of the bands appearing is currently being compiled and will be available at Manly Council’s web site prior to the event. A band not to be missed, is Viva the band, Invited to appear for its 3rd year at the Manly Jazz festival, usually located at the forecourt of the Manly wharf they present an exciting mixture of Jazz, Gypsy Jazz, French, Spanish, European, Zydeco, latin , Salsa and stunning show tunes. The band presents a distinctly “French” sound with the line up of instruments being: Musette accordion/bass, Spanish Guitar, Jazz Violin, supported by Congas, Percussion and Drums. The band also features two vocalists who perform in glorious harmonies, and are particularly appreciated for their renditions of French and Spanish songs. Though Viva the band is not strictly a “jazz” band this uniqueness has delighted many audiences with appearances at a host of Jazz festivals including: Gold Coast, Thredbo, Morpeth, Newcastle, Central Coast, Kiama, Illawarra, Manly and at music events at darling Harbour and Sydney Olympic Park. The band perform at international events with performances in Taiwan in 2004 and 2005 plus future bookings in China in 2006.
