The QVB Jazz Festival, Sydney. And All That Jazz!

Forget Georgia, it’ll be “QVB On My Mind” this August during the QVB Jazz Festival being held on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August 2005. This Free music extravaganza is being hosted at various locations throughout the Queen Victoria Building including Under the Dome on Level Two and in the QVB Forecourt on the corner of Park and George Streets.

Featuring some of Australia’s most entertaining jazz acts including James Morrison, Frank Bennett and The Sounds of Ray Charles, the QVB will be transformed into a jazz lover’s paradise with 13 acts performing across the weekend.

Delighting crowds on Saturday will be the The Sounds of Ray Charles, the sensational all-star 20-piece band, including Peter Gow and Don Rader on brass and Tim Oram and Andrew Robertson on reeds. A memorable show that salutes the genius of Ray Charles, prepare for a blistering performance of soul and blues and relive some of the greatest jazz tunes of all time.

In a performance that’s sure to get every toe on the QVB Forecourt tapping, James Morrison - the man they call The Flying Jazzman - will fill the Sunday afternoon air with his trademark act of soulful, timeless and always classy jazz. Joining James will be gorgeous vocalist Emma Pask, who has been performing with him for the past four years and has released a self-titled album, receiving critical acclaim nationally.

The big names and the big bands keep rolling on Sunday with Frank Bennett, whose seductive stage presence and uncanny ability to capture the magic of Sinatra will truly come to light in front of a jazz-loving Sydney crowd on the Sunday morning. The multi-ARIA nominated performer boasts an unmistakable talent for swinging big band renditions of contemporary pop tunes and has the panache and charisma to put a smile on anyone’s face and a bounce in their step.

This year the QVB Jazz Festival will also include a special treat for enthusiasts – the chance to attend a masterclass with Australian jazz royalties James Morrison and Kerrie Biddell. Bookings for these free classes are essential.
