| Pat Metheny to Begin Tour at Jazz Alley in Seattle Guitarist Pat Metheny will start his upcoming tour September 7th in Seattle, playing three nights at Jazz Alley, accompanied by bassist Christian McBride, drummer Antonio Sanchez, and saxophonist David Sanchez. Billed as Pat Metheny Trio Plus One, the addition of D. Sanchez comes after the saxophonist joined Metheny for a searing set at Montreal’s International Jazz Festival a few weeks ago. “It was a fantastic set, Metheny says; “We were all having so much fun…, I knew my next tour in the fall had to have as many dates with David as possible. ” Metheny, a 15 time-Grammy winner with 3 gold records to his credit, made a swing through Seattle with the larger Pat Metheny Group during The Way Up 2005 World Tour, but this will be the first Trio date he’s done in the Northwest since 1999. Drummer Antonio Sanchez has toured with Metheny extensively, also appearing on the last two PMG records, while McBride and D. Sanchez are recent additions. “We will mix it up, as usual, some tunes as a Trio, some as a Quartet, extended duet sections, and more, ” says Metheny. “I like to explore the full gamut of possibilities…” In addition to hosting the event, Jazz Alley is celebrating its 26th Anniversary, which makes it the 3rd oldest jazz club internationally behind Blues Alley in Washington DC, and Village Vanguard in New York City.
