Dizzy Gillespie Estate Released for Sale

More than 12 years after his death the contents of the Dizzy Gillespie estate will be sold. These prized possessions document the career of the jazz superstar and his 53-year marriage to Lorraine Gillespie. Puffy cheeks and a bent trumpet will forever be the symbols of the famed trumpeter. Dizzy's bent trumpet will be auctioned off on September 14th at Dawson & Nye Auctioneers, Morris Plains, NJ along with hundreds of other Gillespie possessions.

Dizzy and his wife moved to Englewood, New Jersey in 1965. All items being auctioned are from their Englewood home.

Many of the auction items reflect Dizzy's exceptional 50-year career as a jazz master and founder of bebop. In addition to his trumpet (Dizzy liked the sound of an accidentally bent trumpet and had his made that way from that point on), several drums, a piano, his record collection and handwritten sheet music will be sold. His signature hats (size 7-3/8), various photographs, posters and personal correspondence are included. Numerous awards including a gold record and Grammy will go to the highest bidder.
