| VIDEO AVAILABLE: Saturday, August 20, 2005: Hollywood Arts Council Presents Jazz Pilgrimage 2005: A Tribute To Pete Escovedo With Louie Cruz Beltran One of the premiere jazz events in Los Angeles, the Hollywood Arts Council's 11th Annual Jazz Pilgrimage, once again goes Latin bringing one of the most celebrated Latin jazz musicians recording artists and his band to the Ford Amphitheatre (Saturday, August 20, 2005, 8:00 p.m.). The concert will help raise much needed funds for the Council's art programs for children. The Jazz Pilgrimage pays special tribute to an outstanding recording artist. This year's honoree is Pete Escovedo, the legendary percussionist who broke down the barriers between Smooth Jazz-Salsa-Latin Jazz and contemporary music with his band Azteca and with Carlos Santana in the early 1970s. He is the patriarch of a talented musical family and has recorded two albums with his daughter Sheila E. A Concord Records artist, he and his band produce a unique and powerful sound, a mixture of African, Brazilian, contemporary Latin, soul and pop styles. In the Pilgrimage tradition, artists from Pete's illustrious career are invited to sit in. Louie Cruz Beltran, who regards Pete Escovedo as his mentor, will lead a steaming orchestra weaving a musical tapestry of Brazilian, Afro-Cuban music blending Reggae, Latin, Rock and Jazz that compels audiences to their feet. The annual Jazz Pilgrimage concert celebrates the art of jazz and raises funds for the Hollywood Arts Council's programs for children and youth. The Hollywood Arts Council was formed in 1978 to promote, nurture and support the arts in Hollywood. Its many projects include the annual Children's Festival of the Arts and Project SOAR (Students Overcoming All Risks), an after school art program that is conducted in seven Hollywood area elementary schools serving over 2, 000 children each year. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
