Banu Gibson & The New Orleans Hot Jazz. Today, Banu Gibson stands virtually at the top of her field. A superior and swinging jazz singer, Banu is one of the few vocalists of her generation to stick exclusively to songs of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Not content to just copy singers of the past, she mixes fresh renditions of standards and obscurities. Banu Gibson is a powerful force on stage. Her enthusiasm and showmanship are highlighted by her wide range and versatility, spanning Bessie Smith to Billie Holiday; the Boswell Sisters to Sophie Tucker; and Lee Wiley to Fanny Brice. Living in New Orleans since 1981, and accompanied by her superb group of New Orleans musicians, Banu Gibson currently performs at hundreds of jazz festivals and other premier events in America and abroad, as well as numerous local engagements in New Orleans. We're delighted to have Banu and her band here for this, her first appearance, at the Lake Ozark Annual Dixieland Jazz Festival. The West End Jazz Band has been performing music from the golden age of jazz in America for thirty years. Based in Chicago , this fine band specializes in the hot and sweet dance music of the 1920s and 30s. This six-piece group recreates the era's popular music through authentic arrangements and vocals. Some of the vintage bands whose music they feature include the Coon-Sanders Nighthawks, Jean Goldkette, Jan Garber, Isham Jones and many others. The West End Jazz Band, let by cornetist Mike Bezin, plays Jazz Festivals and other engagements across the country. We're pleased to have this great group of musicians at our festival for the very first time! Jean Kittrell & The St. Louis Rivermen.
