The Alma College Percussion Ensemble will perform for the Beyond the Ponds summer concert series

The family-oriented Beyond the Ponds concerts, which are free and open to the public, are held in the Mount Pleasant town square at 6:30 p.m. July 21. The concert series, part of Main Street Live, is co-sponsored by Central Michigan University’s University Events, Wheatland Music Organization, National City Bank and the Mount Pleasant Downtown Business Association.

Founded in 1989 by David Zerbe, the Alma College Percussion Ensemble performs traditional chamber music as well as world music, jazz and steel drum music. “The ensemble toured with the Alma College Concert Band in Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, Orlando and throughout Michigan, ” said Robert Ebner, CMU University Events director and coordinator of the series. “We are very fortunate to have them play here.”

The concert series brings the community together for an enjoyable night of music. “This is a long running series which has been very successful, ” said Ebner. “Since the series was moved to the town center, it has an old-fashioned town feeling.”

In addition to the concert, local businesses will be participating in downtown sidewalk sales July 20 to 22. A four-block area on Broadway and Main streets will be closed. Neil Woodward, an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and folk historian, will conclude the summer concert series at 6:30 p.m. July 28
