| The Mingus Big Band Every Tuesday at The Iridium Jazz Club + New CD "I Am Three" The Mingus Big Band, which performs every Tuesday at the IRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB 1650 BROADWAY (Corner of 51st) NEW YORK, released its eighth recording, “I AM THREE, ” on the new Sue Mingus Music label in conjunction with Sunnyside Records. Already called one of the best jazz CDs of the year, it features six performances by the Big Band, and two performances each by the Mingus Dynasty and the Mingus Orchestra, spanning the Mingus repertoire from swing and bop to classical-inspired works. The title, “I Am Three, ” takes its name from the first lines of Mingus's autobiography. All but two arrangements were made by band members, including Boris Koslov, Robin Eubanks and the late John Stubblefield, who died this month and to whom the band is dedicating its live performances. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
