| Salsa Celtica Comes to Montreal On Tuesday, July 12, Montrealers are in for a treat. Salsa Celtica is performing live at Montreal's Kola Note. Fusing fiery exuberant Afro-Cuban rhythms with the whirl and skirl of Scottish bagpipes and fiddles, and peppering it with jazz, Salsa Celtica have carved out their own musical niche, and are arguably one of Scotland's most popular live bands. Their album 'The great Scottish Adventure' made the top 10 in European and Canadian charts in 2002. In 2003, 'El Agua De La Vida" reached number 5 on the World Music Chart of Europe and gained a prestigious 'Top Of The World ' recommendation in the UK's foremost World Music Magazine 'Songlines'. Last Fall, they performed in Hyde Park, London, in front of 40, 000 people as part of the prestigious BBC Proms in The Park and in November they were chosen to close the Belfast Festival at Queen's, the second largest Festival in the UK and Ireland. Salsa Celtica is a band with a big sound. These 10 talented musicians play the Celtic mainstays such as bagpipes, flute and fiddles, alongside Afro-Cuban percussion such as timbales, congas and bongos. Add to this: trumpets, saxophones, banjo, guitar, piano and vocals, and you have one spicy Salsa mix!
