| Vibraphonist Chuck Redd to appear with the Nate Najar Trio Veteran vibraphonist Chuck Redd will make a rare Florida appearance along with the Nate Najar Trio on Saturday June 25. The program will include music from Redd's recent release All This And Heaven Too, released on Arbors records, as well as swing, blues, ballads and Brazilian material. Chuck Redd is a seasoned performer on both drums and vibraphone. He began performing internationally when he joined the Charlie Byrd Trio in 1980 at the age of 21. He has toured and performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Mel Torme, Tommy Flanagan, Ray Brown, Monty Alexander, Laurindo Almeida, Tal Farlow, Red Norvo, Scott Hamilton, Dr. Billy Taylor, Marian McPartland, Bucky Pizzarelli, Susannah McCorkle and Terry Gibbs, to name a few. Nate Najar is one of only few guitarists who play jazz on the classical guitar. Many guitar players emulate horn players with blistering single note runs, but Nate prefers the more orchestral approach afforded by the classical guitar. Contrapuntal lines, lush harmony, and a full swinging sound have come to be associated with his guitar work. Swinging jazz sounds, blues, and Brazilian styles are all at home under Nate's hands. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
