Marcia Miget to Perform in Sonoma Jazz Festival

On Friday 27 May 2005 from 11a –2pm, Marcia Miget will be performing at Eraldi's 457 1st Street as part of the Sonoma Jazz Festival with Sun Ra Arkestra member, Kash Killion on cello and bass.

A ‘Maestra’ of many elements, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and educator Marcia Miget’s most recent performances include the 2005 International Association of Jazz Educators' with the African American Jazz Caucus Allstar Big Band (and was the 2004 Featured Artist performing with the Historically Black Colleges' University Allstar Band); the 2004 Monterey, Stern Grove and Fillmore Jazz Festivals as the only female saxophonist with Anthony Brown and the Asian American Orchestra; and with Wayne Wallace and Pete Escovedo at Vallejo’s Jazz Festival.

With musical skills that cross multiple genres, this year alone she’s recorded with Dr. Anthony Brown and the Asian American Orchestra on his latest ‘re-arranged’ Big Band project, Rhapsody by Gershwin; performed with the Northern California Lighthouse Singers 25th Anniversary conducted by Helen Stevens and Stephen Roberts; and her latest project-as-producer is Passing the Baton: the Miget-Redd Session Part 1 available on www.mee-j.com . Her performance pedigree includes multiple appearances with Carlos Santana, and such notables as Freddy Redd, Larry Ridley, Jimmy Cobb, Buddy Baker, Kenny Barron, Orestes Vilato, Frank Foster, Donald Byrd, Pete Escovedo, John Santos, Wayne Wallace, Chick Corea, Tyrone Hill of Sun Ra’s Arkestra, Carl Perazzo, Phish, John Santos, John Handy, Babatunde Lea, Abel Sanchez/Jorge Santana and the SF Kids, Jaimeo Brown and Dartanyan Brown to name a few.

Master Instructor of Miraflores Music Academie, la Maestra Marcia is involved in designing and producing creative and educational products for youth, and expanding the concept of Passing the Baton. Recently returning from a European tour with Sun Ra’s Arkestra, Kash’s concert history includes performances with Donald Byrd, George Cables, Billy Higgins, Reggie Workman as well as an integral member of the Arkestra. A consummate session musician he’s just finished a film score with Tom Waits and has recorded Afro-Cuban music with several salsa groups His latest project, Lost Legacy of the Cello, is currently available through e-mail protected from spam bots. Having studied with the great Indian musician, Ali Akbar Khan he plays assorted Middle Eastern stringed instruments such as, serengi, ditruba and esraj, as well as cello and bass.

Born in Alton, Illinois (Miles Davis’ home town) Kash Killion has played extensively with such icons as Cecil Taylor, John Zorn, Julius Hemphill, Reggie Workman, Sun Ra, Butch Morris and George Lewis. His interest in avant garde jazz was ignited by Sun Ra in 1978, and further heightened by meeting and playing with Pharoah Sanders. A composer and multi-instrumentalist, he’s composed and performed with dance troupes and poets including Amiri Baraka, Alice Walker, Quincy Troupe.
