| Clare Teal presents the 40th Anniversary of Stan Tracey's "Under Milk Wood" Last Friday, April 22nd, Clare Teal hosted a special 40th anniversary celebration of Stan Tracey's "Under Milk Wood" suite for BBC Radio 2. The show was recorded live at The Mermaid Theatre in London and will be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on Monday 2nd May 2005 (8pm-9pm). The show features Stan Tracey on piano, Clark Tracey on drums, Andrew Cleyndert on bass and Bobby Wellins on saxophone who played with Stan on the original 1965 record as well as three narators: Ruth Madoc, Victor Spinnetti, and Philip Madoc. The suite was recorded in May 1965 at Lansdowne Studios in London with Bobby Wellins on tenor sax, Jeff Clyne on bass and Jackie Dougan on drums. Stan says that the Dylan Thomas play provided an inspirational theme with which to work. "It helps having a subject to write about. The various movements have their own moods, and this makes it much easier." Although now in his late seventies, Stan is still performing around the UK. The show can be heard all over the world on the BBC Radio 2 website and will be available to hear at any time for a week after the initial broadcast. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
