| Monika Heidemann Band at Kavehaz, Monday Jan.24 Singer Monika Heidemann will perform one set of her original music with her band at Kavehaz, 37 West 26th Street between 6th and Broadway, Monday, January 24 at 10:00PM. Monika Heidemann blends jazz, rock, art song, and the avant-garde into original compositions and poetic lyrics that are emotional, smart, and accessible. Her warm, rich voice sings strong, mysterious melodies over music inspired by the improvisational element of jazz and her own musical vocabularies and extended techniques. She is supported by an all-star band of NYC musicians: Matt Moran- Vibrophone, Khabu Doug Young- Guitar, Massimo Biolcati- Bass, Take Toriyama- Drums, plus a few guest performers: Aoife O’Donnovan and Heather Masse (Warefaring Strangers), Jeremy Uddeen (Either Orchestra) and Ljova Zhurbin on Viola. Fairly new to the NYC scene, Monika is currenty preparing for the recording of her first solo, self-produced album to be released in the spring (with the above lineup). The album will feature her compositions, plus two songs by her much loved former teacher, the late Steve Lacy. “Possessed of a very fine voice and an original style, I consider Monika one of the most promising and talented young musicians that I know.” -Steve Lacy, jazz saxophone “pre-intermission highlights included...
