| Korean master performs with NYC locals in a Lunar New Year fusion jazz concert Nicknamed the “Master of Improvisation” by the Korean press, gayageum master In Young Baek will bring his uniquely eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary Korean music to New York City in celebration of the Lunar New Year. Backed by the jazz Hyeseon Hong Ensemble and joined by two other players, Baek will perform modern and jazz selections on the gayageum, an ancient Korean stringed instrument with a wooden board and movable bridges. The free performance will take place at the Korean Cultural Service New York, on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 7:00 pm. Listeners will be treated to a singular concert of contemporary Korean music and fusion jazz, as Baek performs as a soloist and then joins the Hyeseon Hong Ensemble for an exciting jazz jam session at the end of the concert. Rami Seo and Haerina Park, both accomplished gayageum soloists, will offer a piece for gayageum duo that was arranged especially for this concert. The Hyeseon Hong Ensemble will also present some of Ms. Hong’s most recent jazz compositions. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
