All-Star Benefit Concert for JazzReach set for December 16th

Six of the most renowned jazz musicians in the world will come together on December 16, 2004, for an exciting one-time-only benefit performance in support of JazzReach. The group includes modern-day luminaries, Christian McBride, Jack DeJohnette, John Scofield, Kenny Garret, Nicholas Payton, and Jason Moran. The award winning jazz journalist and author, Gary Giddins will host.

The event will take place at the John Jay College Theater in Manhattan. A festive pre-show wine and desert reception will take place at 7PM with curtain at 8PM. Tickets are $75 and $150, with the latter price including premium front orchestra seating, one complimentary raffle ticket, an after-show champagne reception with the artists and goodie-filled gift bags.

JazzReach is a nationally recognized, New York City-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of young people through the presentation of innovative live multimedia educational programs. Established by musician H. Benjamin Schuman in 1994, JazzReach has successfully become one of our nation’s leading arts education organizations and has served over 80,000 young people nationwide.

“JazzReach was founded on the premise that an appreciation of jazz music, as both a dynamic musical form and a unifying cultural movement, can provide people of all ages with a sophisticated understanding of our national character” says Schuman. “Because jazz uniquely translates the American experience into rhythm and tune, dialogue on the many facets of this musical tradition offers a particularly versatile educational opportunity for the exploration of artistic innovation and collaboration, as well as issues of ethnic, religious and economic difference.”
