| Ishmael Reed and the Gary Bartz Quartet: Poetry for Peace from Daisaku Ikeda Gary Bartz, a powerful alto-sax player, presents his “Poetry for Peace” project, with Barney McCall (piano/keyboards), James King (bass), Greg Bandy (drums) – and, featuring special guest Ishmael Reed, one of the most acclaimed, and contentious, African-American writers. In addition to his own works, Reed will be performing the peace poetry of Japanese Buddhist philosopher, Daisaku Ikeda. Bartz has always played with focused passion and lyricism, whether early in his career with Charles Mingus, Max Roach, and Art Blakey; or, with Miles Davis’s fusion band; or in his own fusing of jazz, soul, African music, and funk. write your comments about the article :: © 2004 Jazz News :: home page |
