| British jazz pianist John Taylor appointed at Exeter University, UK The Music Department at the University of Exeter, UK, are delighted to announce the appointment of jazz pianist John Taylor, as of October 2004. John joins the department staff as lecturer in jazz performance to contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in jazz and improvised music. John has been at the forefront of European jazz since the early 1970’s when he partnered saxophonists Alan Skidmore and John Surman. Since then he has gone on to work with many of the leading names in contemporary jazz, including Gil Evans, Michael Brecker, Kenny Wheeler, Miroslav Vitous, Ronnie Scott, Jan Garbarek, Lee Konitz, Julian Arguelles, Charlie Haden, Norma Winstone, Peter Erskine, Palle Danielsson, Charlie Mariano, Cleo Laine, Ralph Towner and Steve Arguelles. In 2002 John celebrated his 60th birthday with a Contemporary Music Network Tour featuring his new trio with Joey Baron and Marc Johnson. The tour also featured the Creative Jazz Orchestra playing John’s” Green Man Suite”, which won the BBC Jazz Award for Best New Work. 2003 saw the release of his new trio recording Rosslyn as well as the solo CD Insight.
