| Ropeadope New Music Seminar Tour 2004 For the past 5 years, the Brooklyn based independent record label, Ropeadope, has been host to the New Music Seminar, a bi-annual concert event featuring the label’s biggest names, brightest stars and closet friends. The theme is always “no rules” as bands and musicians mix and match to create one long (4-hour), inter-locking set with surprises and excitement at every turn. Since its inception, the New Music Seminar has never been duplicated and nobody, including the artists, know what to expect - except for the unexpected. Past participants have included: John Medeski, John Scofield, Amp Fidler, Jason Moran, Vernon Reid, Warren Haynes, Living Colour, Soulive, Dj Logic, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Dave Matthews, Robert Randolph and many more. Improvisation, unique pairings of musicians and special guests always create an intriguing level of buzz. This fall’s RADNMS tour will be no different, as the genres represented are no easy fit. From Classical music’s brightest young star cellist Matt Haimovitz, to under ground hip-hop hero Lyrics Born; guitar virtuoso Charlie Hunter to beat master DJ Olive; From the Jazz of Downtown New York City (Sex Mob) to the purveyors of improv in Downtown Seattle (Critters Buggin); from the organ and drums rock duo of Russo/Benevento to Philly’s most respected poet, Big Rich Medina. All of this in one long set, with musicians swapping places throughout the night. There is no doubt this fall’s Ropeadope New Music Seminar will create an exciting arena to bridge the musical gap between fans. The Ropeadope New Music Seminar will kick off with two East Coast dates and then swing through the Mid-West and West Coast. write your comments about the article :: © 2004 Jazz News :: home page |
