Nina Simone :: Black Is The Color by Andy Stroud by Ron Sagye La Rue NINA SIMONE BLACK IS THE COLOR Andy Stroud 75 Pages,Paperback Publisher:Xlibris Black is The Color, is a photo book covering the career and life of vocalist,pianist and social activist Nina Simone. Beginning on page 7 showing Nina(Eunice Waymon-her given name)age 8 in Tryon,North Carolina(USA). Many images of Simone are featured in a variety of settings: family life,on vacation with the famous playwright Lorraine Hansberry,poet Langston Hughes,American actress,Kim Novack. Blues/rock singer Janis Joplin,Theodore Bikel at a rally for Freedom Riders in 1964. Most of the photographs are black and white with a few color images. Taken by husband Stroud, others by professional photographers,there's even one for a Crest toothpaste advertisement. Nina preparing for a performance at Carnegie Hall and at a Philips recording session in June of 1964. Captions accompany most of the images from interviews and quotes from different stages of Nina's career. Page 20-21 show Ms. Simone with her first car a 1960 convertible Mercedes-Benz. Play bills and part of a progam flyer and a letter to her husband are included,as well as photos of her 99 year old mother and children.
