| CIOs Fuelling the Infrastructure Insurrection CIOs are abandoning rip and replace culture in favour of modernising existing systems, research from Software AG has revealed. The research, which quizzed over 150 IT directors across all industry sectors, has revealed a healthy appetite for implementation of BPM and SOA initiatives to help cut costs and improving service delivery in a worsening economic climate. 21 per cent of respondents said that application modernisation would be a top priority for the coming months, whilst a further 24 per cent chose BPM initiatives as the top choice to fight the downturn. The news comes as thousands of IT jobs were slashed from major organisations struggling to balance the books. "In a recession, businesses should be looking to sweat existing technology", said Jim Close, Country Manager, Software AG UK. "For too long irresponsible CIOs have presided over a culture of rip and replace projects that often finish over time and over budget. Businesses should be looking at improving existing infrastructure to free up talented IT staff and improve service delivery." The research also revealed the true cost of poorly managed process across the enterprise. Over 25 per cent of respondents said that badly implemented processes decreased employee efficiency, whilst 16 per cent said that sloppy process management damaged customer service delivery. "Aligning IT and business talent is the bread and butter of any organisation in tough economic circumstances", warned Close. "Strategic investment in modernisation will deliver cost cuts and free-up talented IT staff to concentrate on business critical projects and fight the downturn. By retaining top talent and a healthy, lean infrastructure, businesses will be better placed to fight the recession", Close concluded. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Computing News :: home page |
