LINX First in the World to Interconnect 300 Members

The London Internet Exchange (LINX) announces that it has connected its 300th member, the first Internet exchange point in the world ever to connect so many networks together.

During 2008 LINX has added 50 new members representing a 19% increase in membership in just eleven months. This rise is indicative of the importance networks attach to peering despite the significant drop in transit pricing over the last decade.

The LINX membership has become highly international, with networks from more than 45 countries represented. This is up from just 16 countries in the year 2000 when there were fewer than 100 members at the exchange.

Over the last quarter LINX has been bolstered by the connection of a number of major content and DNS providers plus the first European peering presence of a leading social networking site.

LINX also boasts an impressive set of technical statistics, with over 600 member Ethernet ports connected, more than 140 of them at the fastest possible rate, 10GigE.
