Forget Your Ex, or Forget the Sex

Men hoping to attract women online should avoid pictures with their exes, shots of their intimate body parts and self penned poetry according to a study by Singles365.com, looking into the laws of online attraction. Women also need to avoid images of their exes, family shots and old photographs of themselves if they are going to get the best hit rates for their online dating profiles.

It seems that less is more for women searching for an online partner: professional studio photography turns off 20% of women, with a further 19% citing elaborate likes and dislikes as being off-putting when they are looking at a man's digital calling card.

Men and women both agree on the degree of honesty that they display online about themselves. 20% of respondents admit to being less honest online than offline and 40% expect someone they meet to be less honest online.

Steve Pammenter, spokesperson for Singles365.com comments: "Online dating has evolved into a socially acceptable way of meeting new people, although it brings with it new rules of engagement. The advent of video dating is the next generation of technology that will help people identify attractive partners online. Photographs, which are clearly particularly hazardous, only make up part of the overall impression that a profile offers once video dating is brought into the mix. Just don't recite poetry in your video profile!"

The study into the laws on online attraction canvassed the opinions of over 2,000 British singles to establish the top turn offs for online and offline dating.
