Bluesocket Announces BlueSecure 6.4

Bluesocket announces availability of version 6.4 of its software platform designed for the BlueSecure wireless LAN (WLAN) product family. In addition to a number of performance enhancements, and building on the platform's current 802.11n ready capabilities, key new features added in this release include enhanced client scanning, Ortronics Wi-Jack Duo Access Point support and centralized guest management services.

Bluesocket Controllers continue to support the widest range of 3rd party access points, reducing customer upgrade costs and easing the transition to 802.11n and future next-generation wireless technologies. Leveraging the open architecture and modularity of the Bluesocket WLAN platform, version 6.4 adds support for the Ortronics Wi-Jack Duo access point - the world's smallest dual-band, dual-radio wireless access point (AP). In line with a development and joint marketing agreement announced earlier this month, Bluesocket's access point software has been integrated with the Ortronics Wi-Jack Duo access point and is now fully supported by Bluesocket's family of BlueSecure Controllers. The solution provides the only dual-band, dual-radio access point that seamlessly integrates with structured cabling, providing for centrally managed, high performance wireless deployments that are theft and vandalism resistant. The Wi-Jack Duo AP's small form and wall mount design, coupled with the BlueSecure Controller's zero touch plug-and-play, delivers unmatched ease of deployment and use for customers across a wide variety of vertical markets.

Ease of use, robust security and integration with a wide variety of 3rd party payment and billing solutions continue to make Bluesocket Guest Access Services the solution of choice; even for those with non-Bluesocket Controller deployments. Now, Bluesocket's BlueView Management System (BVMS) can be used with any 3rd party Controller that can authenticate against RADIUS to centrally manage and configure guest accounts across multiple controllers, administrators and locations. Guest accounts can be created from a central web based GUI with authentication administered via a RADIUS directory server residing on the BlueView Management System. With this solution, there is no need to install software on administrator PCs, policies can be applied based on groups and reports of guest activities can be generated for guest activities across the entire installation.

Version 6.4 of Bluesocket's wireless LAN software introduces BlueProtect, a robust and highly integrated endpoint client scanning solution. With BlueProtect, IT departments can be confident that client devices connecting to the wireless network will not introduce unwanted threats to the network environment. Managed via the administration GUI of Bluesocket's BlueSecure Controllers, BlueProtect allows IT staff to monitor, control and enforce policies relating to antivirus, antispyware, firewall, antiphishing and other endpoint security applications. BlueProtect is available on all Bluesocket wireless controllers and can be activated with the purchase of a software license.

With a continued focus on scalability and advanced RF features, additional capabilities available in the BlueSecure 6.4 software release include:
- High availability improvements including a new loadsharing GUI and failover capabilities;
- RF-IDS improvements for scalability and RF containment;
- Credit card billing internationalization;
- Admin port enhancements for authentication, configuration and reporting.
