| Getmapping Launches Maps and Imagery of Northern Ireland Getmapping has announced the availability of new aerial imagery and mapping of Northern Ireland to add to its coverage of England, Wales and Scotland. Both the aerial imagery and 1:50,000-scale mapping are available for immediate download from Getmapping.com. Aerial imagery covering the whole province of Northern Ireland is available at 25cm resolution, sufficient to clearly see, roads, buildings, trees and vegetation. The mapping is available at 1:50,000 scale. Specific tiles may be ordered online for immediate download whilst specialist areas may be ordered from Getmapping's sales office. The data is available in a variety of file formats including JPEG and ECW. It is supplied with a 'World' file making it ready to import into CAD/GIS or other software packages. A free viewer is also available. Both imagery and mapping follow the Irish Grid projection. The aerial imagery and maps are the work of the Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland, now merged with the Rate Collection Agency, Valuation and Lands Agency and Land Registers Northern Ireland to become Land and Property Services (LPS). LPS is an executive agency within the Department of Finance and Personnel for Northern Ireland which has been set up to provide an integrated set of land and property related services for citizens and government to aid the regeneration and economic development of the Province. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Computing News :: home page |
