Smith Micro Software Launches StuffIt Deluxe 12 for Windows

Smith Micro Software announces the launch of StuffIt Deluxe 12, its archive and compression software for Microsoft Windows. StuffIt Deluxe 12 includes a breakthrough in image compression technology that enables full quality images such as TIFFs, Photoshop documents and Bitmaps to be compressed by as much as 70 percent without reducing image quality. StuffIt also provides improved compression of Microsoft Office documents including PowerPoint, PDF documents and MP3 audio files.

StuffIt 12 improves on its Microsoft Office plug-ins so Windows users can access more of StuffIt directly from within Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, including the ability to upload newly-created archives to an FTP server or to burn them to the user's choice of media. StuffIt 12 also provides plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop. Users can open files from or save them to compressed archives and optionally burn them to a disk or upload to an FTP server.

StuffIt Deluxe also features workflow management Wizards that empower users to perform file transfer and backup tasks more quickly and efficiently. StuffIt's Wizard-driven interface allows users to compress and upload via FTP or e-mail, to schedule backups, and burn CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray optical disks and to store backups spanning multiple disks.

Combined with StuffIt's ability to archive only those files tagged by the file system as "ready to archive", StuffIt can be deployed as an effective backup solution for important documents and projects. The ability to backup selected archives directly to an FTP server over the Internet makes it an ideal solution for mobile workers who spend large amounts of time away from an office-based backup solution.
