Fujitsu Siemens Selects Sierra Wireless Embedded Modules

Sierra Wireless announces that Fujitsu Siemens Computers has once again selected Sierra Wireless embedded modules to provide HSPA network connectivity to selected models in the LIFEBOOK product line of professional notebook computers. New platforms incorporating Sierra Wireless modules are expected to roll out over the course of 2008, including the new LIFEBOOK P8010, which is scheduled for commercial launch in March. The LIFEBOOK P8010 notebook is featured this week in the Sierra Wireless pavilion at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (located at AV99, on the Avenue).

Fujitsu Siemens Computers is the first PC OEM to utilize the GPS capability included in Sierra Wireless embedded modules, with a software application that supports the extension of location based services to upcoming notebooks. When supported by the mobile broadband network operator, this capability could provide features such as local find and locate for services such as fuel stations and restaurants, or navigation assistance using common software tools.

Sierra Wireless embedded modules for HSPA networks offer tri-band UMTS/HSPA and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE network access for roaming on mobile broadband networks worldwide, as well as Receive Diversity and GPS support. Designed for integration into notebook computers, fixed wireless terminals, and other devices requiring high-speed mobile broadband connectivity, Sierra Wireless embedded modules are fully shielded and offer an operating temperature range of -25 to +60 degrees Celsius to suit all applications.

To simplify and expedite product development cycles, Sierra Wireless also provides OEM customers with a comprehensive software development kit (SDK) or Sierra Wireless's own Watcher software for easy connection management. OEM customers can rely on Sierra Wireless to deliver a suite of PCI Express Mini Card products along with best-in-class technical and integration support, so end customers experience the same reliable, robust AirCard Enabled data solution users have come to expect from the AirCard line of PC card products.
