| Cuadra Associates Releases Version 4 of the STAR/Archives Solution Cuadra Associates announces the release of a new version of STAR/Archives, its archival collections management solution. The centerpiece of this new release is a new feature that allows for generation of EAD finding aids as XML files from the archival catalog. Cuadra decided to create this new feature because more and more archives are creating finding aids in EAD (Encoded Archival Description) format, which has become the recognized exchange format for both archival institutions and researchers. Up until now, creating EAD finding aid files has been a labor-intensive process involving the encoding of descriptions and container-list information by hand, using a text editor or an SGML/XML authoring tool. With STAR/Archives' new feature for generating such finding aids "on the fly", users can take advantage of the descriptive work that they have already done and generate the needed finding aids in a single step, as a byproduct of their cataloging efforts. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Computing News :: home page |
