| Panda Software Intros New NanoScan and TotalScan Tools Panda Software's new tools, NanoScan and TotalScan, incorporate effective technologies for detecting both known and unknown rootkits. Both applications are available free viathis link. Rootkits are programs designed to hide files, processes, or registry entries. Although they are not malicious in themselves, cyber-criminals are using them more often to hide malicious codes. In order to detect active rootkits on computers, NanoScan checks all of the processes that are running, comparing them with a knowledge base generated by Panda Software, and which is hosted in a network of data centers. In this way, any suspicious process is classified as malicious or not malicious. TotalScan, in addition to the aforementioned scan, and as it is a tool for detecting all types of latent and active malware, also uses a signature file, extending its scan to other parts of the system. This tool can pinpoint the rootkits that are installed on the computer but not running at the time. NanoScan and TotalScan detect more malware than traditional security solutions, detecting even the malware that has slipped past the antivirus protection installed. TotalScan beta is an online malware (viruses, spyware, Trojans, etc.) scanner able to detect all types of threats on users' PCs. The prime feature of TotalScan is its exceptional detection capacity: It currently detects more than 900,000 viruses, spyware, Trojans, and other types of threats. And this figure is increasing at a rate of around 2,000 new threats per day thanks to its continuous updates. It also detects unknown threats thanks to the TruPrevent intelligent technologies. The new Panda Software tool detects both threats that are active on the computer, as well as those that remain latent, but could activate at any time. TotalScan also disinfects the threats detected. NanoScan beta detects all active malware hiding in critical areas of a computer in less than 60 seconds. NanoScan detects more than 800,000 examples of known malware, and is updated continually against new threats. It also detects unknown malware thanks to the TruPrevent intelligent anti-malware technologies. NanoScan is an extremely light application (400KB), as all the malware scan and detection technology is hosted on Panda Software servers. NanoScan and TotalScan's huge detection capacity is due to the 'Anti-malware Collective Intelligence', a system developed by Panda Research. These tools leverage the malware knowledge accumulated by Panda Software and stored on a network of data centers. NanoScan and TotalScan provide a 'second opinion' on computer security and complement any antivirus solution installed on a system. They can be used before making online transactions or accessing online banking services. Thanks to the Panda Software application, users can make sure that there are no keylogger Trojans on their computers, or any other threats waiting to steal confidential data. No software is required on the PC when using these tools, as these are online applications that work from the Internet browser using ActiveX technology. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Computing News :: home page |
