Acnodes' New Battery Operated Luggable Portable LCD Workstation

Acnodes has announced the addition of new luggable portable computer that can operate on regular notebook type batteries. Acnodes' new PLW 8150 employs the new low-power mini ITX motherboard in conjunction with a passive backplane to offer two full-length PCI slots and still operate on battery power for 3-4 hours at a time with two notebook type lithium ion batteries. The battery packs are hot swappable. They can also run on AC power via an external adapter. One of the main reasons for the decline of the luggable portable was that as LCD as screens became larger, the portable itself became unwieldy.

Acnodes new portable sports a 15.1" 1024x768 TFT LCD screen protected by anti-glare tempered glass and still keeps the size down to 16.5" wide by 11.5" high by 6.25" deep. By using an aluminum alloy inner chassis covered by flame-retardant ABS plastic, the system weighs about 20 pounds. Even inside it's protective wheeled carrying bag with telescopic handle it can fit in the overhead compartment on most commercial airlines.

The PLW 8150 is loaded with vital PC features including "Fire wire A", two USB 2.0 ports, two standard serial ports, parallel port, slim DVD and floppy drives, removable SATA hard drive, built-in audio, gigabit LAN, VGA and TV out. The new portable features 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo CPU power and up to 4GB RAM. A non-battery operated model using a slim 160W power supply is also available.
