Atlassian Releases JIRA 3.7 Professional Issue Tracker

Atlassian Software Systems has announced the release of JIRA 3.7, the latest version of the professional issue and bug tracker. This major release introduces a project roles feature and includes over 100 bug fixes and 60 improvements.

Project roles in 3.7 make it very easy to set precise permissions and notification schemes according to a person's role, so that each user receives appropriate access and notifications. From the administrator's standpoint, project roles significantly lessen time-consuming configuration work, particularly within instances of multiple, project-specific groups. Existing JIRA customers can elect when/if to migrate from user groups to project roles by way of a free converter.

Additional improvements to JIRA 3.7 include reader-friendly personalised RSS feeds for issues and comments; an SVN Project Panel plugin that displays a new tab with all issue-related commits; 'user properties' that allow administrators to capture specified user attributes (e.g. phone, location, cost centre); an HSQL database upgrade; AJAX-loading of dashboard portlets; instant chart views in the issue navigator; and more.
