| Acer Is Currently the World's Fifth-Largest Branded PC Vendor Research and Markets has announced the addition of "Acer: Competitive Benchmarking Report" to their offering. Acer, the world's fifth-largest branded PC vendor, had the highest year-on-year growth among the top five PC vendors in 2004. It is also the largest Notebook brand in Europe. Dell, HP and IBM (now Lenovo) are its top three competitors. Among Acer's rivals, Dell has the largest share in the global PC market. Acer pioneered the Direct Sales Model and Just-in-Time (JIT) manufacturing in the PC industry. HP, the second-largest player in branded PC segment, is also the global leader in the inkjet printer and scanner segment. IBM was the world's third-largest PC brand till it sold off its PC division to the Chinese company, Lenovo, for US$1.75 billion in 2005. This was aimed at increasing IBMs profitability by focusing on services and by divesting its low-margin PC business. Falling prices in the PC segment have prompted the top PC vendors to diversify into services. Higher margins and growth in the IT products segment is being driven by Notebooks and servers. Nearly 47% of Acer's revenues came from the Notebooks segment in 2004. Desktops accounted for 14% of the total revenues. The report benchmarks Acer vis-?-vis its peer group on several indicators, such as customer segments, geographical presence, business strategy, sales and profitability. It also examines the role of key performance drivers, such as quality, supply chain management, distribution and pricing.
