Teradyne Diagnostic Solutions has launched i-VIEW, a Vehicle Communications Interface that will be the most mobile, most efficient and most powerful vehicle diagnostics tool in the company's range. Teradyne is confident that the product is unparalleled in terms of performance, built-in features and ease of use. Lynn Baranowski, product manager, explains, "The new VCI is compatible with Teradyne Diagnostic Solutions' established GRADE-X test-authoring software, and offers vehicle technicians the ability to communicate with vehicle ECUs (Electronic Control Units) for diagnostics, data capture, de-bugging or complete reprogramming".

i-VIEW integrates a powerful processor and a very large non-volatile memory, on-board web server, advanced wireless technology and supports industry-standard software e.g. ASAM, ODX, J2534. Firstly, this enables a single PC to act as a server for multiple units, and consequently that PC is freed up to perform other diagnostic operations. It can also be used independently of a PC, and customer applications can be installed onto it so it can be used to record data, re-program vehicle ECUs or perform diagnostics, only needing to connect to the PC for reporting on completion.

Due to this benefit, plus its minimal power demand on the vehicle battery, the i-VIEW can therefore be used as a 'flight recorder', capturing data in real time, even while the vehicle is in normal use over a protracted period, or while it is waiting for admission into the workshop, to save time. i-VIEW is also future-proof, with expansion and software update capability: software updates can be installed out in the field to protect against obsolescence, and 'brand-specific' protocols can be installed to enable a common platform to be shared across a multi-brand group.
